European Championships 2004
It will be a flying start to the World Cup year. Speed will be very important in this sub-5 minute terrain, although there are some quite big hills to slow you down. All of the maps are covered by a dense path network, so there will be plenty of track running. The forests are quite varied, but all are rich in contour details, so in places it will be important to switch to fine navigation.
Qualifiers and relay: Steep round hills covered by heavily worked forest. There could be some tricky route choice among the hills. Apologies for the quality of the map sample! A bit like parts of the Forest of Dean..?
The Middle Distance: Perhaps most similar to 'typical' Spring Cup forest. Flat, undefined features, small marshes and lots of ditches. Accurate compass will be important.
The Long Distance: The most interesting terrain - linear hills rising to a some sea cliffs. long legs running accross the grain of the terrain will create difficult route choices. There are some quite detailed areas of spurs and gullys.
