8/9/04: Final preparations are over...
The first races of WOC are less than a week away now and tomorrow I will travel
out to Vasteras. I'm excited about the week already but this will really start
to kick in once we all arrive. All the training is done and now all that remains
is to get it right on the day.
This
year we have all had the luxury of seeing (not so) old orienteering maps of
the race terrains. There won't be any major surprises and it's given us the
chance to
anticipate
the challenges and visualise our own races. Training in the forests in Sheffield
is almost impossible in the summer months (brambles, nettles, bracken) so I
have been escaping to Vasteras on most of my runs and interval sessions. This
is an example of an interval session where I have visualised control circles
during the effort and drawn them during the recovery. It's hard to judge how
much this kind of training helps - I guess I'll find out next week...
You can follow the results on the WOC website
- they promise some good coverage...we'll see. For a more British slant on things
you can follow things on nopesport or
Jamie's website. Enjoy watching
and we'll do our best to provide something special!
