16/1/04: Go Carbon neutral and support Future
Forests
By supporting Future Forests you can help repay your own environmental
debt and protect the future of our sport. Orienteering is an extremely environmentally
friendly sport, however we all travel huge distances to compete each year. With
the advent of cheap airlines we are all flying much more frequently and this
has a big environmental impact.
To offset this, you can go carbon neutral by buying a tree for each return flight
you make. You can even chose where in Great Britain (or abroad) you would like
it to be planted. We will be doing this for each flight we make in 2004. The
policy has been adopted by many companies, bands and celebrities including Coldplay,
Pink Floyd and the Foo Fighters.
Perhaps this is something the British team or squad could adopt as a policy
- it would certainly be a good way to earn some media coverage and the cost
is negligable. Just think of all those forests we can compete in in years to
come! Visit Future Forests
