28/1/04: Looking Forward to Lipica
On
its website the Lipica Open in Slovenia
announces it is ‘not a big, fancy competition with rich awards. It is
a simple, modest competition where we want to offer good and correct organisation
in a friendly atmosphere’. Organiser Roman Volcic couldn’t have
been more helpful in giving us information on where to stay and the possibility
of training before the races. The races consist of a middle distance World Ranking
Event on the Saturday and a Classic on the Sunday, March 6th and 7th. The winners
of D21E and H21E over the 2 days win a 2 night stay in the hotel in Lipica!
Intricate, karst, runnable terrain coupled with temperatures
of 15°C makes it a good choice for early March and the French team had a
camp here in 1999 and 2001. We are combining the weekend, which will be orienteering
in a new country for us, with our GB Team trip to Southern Italy for the Park
World Tour Series which we have both now been selected for. Ryanair flights
into Trieste, a car booked through Avis and accommodation in the event hotel
in Lipica make for a great weekend.
