14/9/04: Oli through to World Champs Middle Final
Oli qualified comfortably in 7th position for Saturday's World Championship
Middle Final in Vasteras, Sweden, despite making one or two small mistakes.
He knows he can run faster in that race and still keep the orienteering under
control and is hoping to build on his 22nd place in Switzerland. The terrain
was very tricky with the start taking you straight into bushy areas which were
quite unlike most of the areas the team had trained on. Several people had problems
with some stars such as Anne Margrethe Hausken (NOR) failing to qualify as well
as GB team-mates Hannah Wootton and Dan Marston.
After 2 qualification races the Brits have 10 places in the finals and the mood in the camp is good with everyone looking forward to the finals getting under way with the Sprint tomorrow.
