6/4/03: Post Spring Cup:
Spring
Cup is always an exhausting weekend - early mornings at Stansted, loosing hours
all over the place and some fast and furious races. As usual there was a handful
of top class British results including a silver for Jamie in the classic, followed
by a first place on first leg in the relay. Mhari took 4th place in the D20E classic,
Oleg was 5th in H18E and Sarah Rollins was 8th.
After some pretty sedate performances in the classic we both remembered how to
race again in the relay. It's always a good opportunity to run head-to-head against
a high class field and a good way to kick-start the racing season.
After that it was back home for Jenny but on to Nybro for me to a GB Squad camp
part-organised by Dave Shepherd, who runs for Nybro OK. It was a week of great
weather, great maps and great training and the first ever international camp with
both juniors and seniors. This worked well as both groups got to know each other
a bit better as one big, happy team. It was perhaps a bit much coming straight
after Spring Cup. It is always hard to say no to training on a camp like this
and I was one casualty of this, catching a cold midweek which is still clearing.
I will be much more careful about training after such intense racing in the future!
