16/5/04: York City Trophy:
On bank holiday Monday 31st May the York City Trophy will be taking place in
the "Venice of Yorkshire". This annual race around the city centre
streets, parks and snickleways of York's old town is high intensity sprint racing
at its best. Route choice around the rivers and squares is difficult and pedestrian
shoppers compensate for the lack of trees!
This years race sees a revised map made to sprint specification as well as an extension out into the campus of York College and beyond. The start and finish will be high profile for the public in the central square of the city so it will be a great advertisement for the sport! On the Monday after the Scottish Championships weekend the race is a perfect stop off on the way home. The field will be high quality with many of the Yorkshire elites taking part including Matt Speake who has come back from Sweden for the race.
