Sheffield
Sheffield has historically been England's first city for orienteering. The resources are endless with the Peak District just minutes from the city. Sheffield is built on several big valleys and spurs so training within the city can be high quality. There are around 20 new, professional maps in the local area, a mixture of rocky moorland and forest with intricate mining detail. Sheffield is home to many members of the national team including Matt Crane, Helen Winskill, Laura Daniel and of course Rachael Elder. Here are some examples of Sheffield terrain.

Eccleshall Woods
Fast city forest with a detailed path network and lots of point features.
Burbage Moor
Huge area of moorland with pockets of intricate mining detail and woodland.
Loxley Common
Detailed city forest with a variety of terrain types from forested mining detail to spur gully heathland and streets.
Surprise View
Scattered birch forest with a wealth of rock detail including big tors.
Wharnecliffe Woods
Physical and technical forest, home of the British Orienteering Championships 2003. A flat plateau with a long, mined scarp slope. Nice in winter!
